The William Penn Singers and Jazz Band will present their fall concerts on November 12 and 13, 7:30 p.m. at the Musco Technology Center (MTC), on the campus of William Penn University. Music genres will range from Renaissance chant to classic jazz; Top 40 country to Walt Disney. New to the concert will be the Jazz Combo, officially formed this semester to give students an added opportunity to stretch their soloing skills.

In previous years, this event has been held at Smokey Row Coffee House in downtown Oskaloosa, but this semester, due to increased enrollment in the ensembles, the concerts had to be moved to the larger space of the MTC. “Although the students and audiences loved our coffee shop performances, the space just doesn’t allow all three groups to play there and sound their best”, states Scott Cressley, Jazz Band Director. “We hope to have that same great audience come to campus and enjoy the music the students have worked on this semester.”

Featured jazz selections will be “Beauty and the Beast”, “I’m Beginning to See the Light”, “Watermelon Man”, “West Coast Shuffle”, and “Saturday Night Blues”. Chorale pieces will include “Somewhere” from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story”, “Forget You” and “Turn on the Radio”. The ensembles are under the direction of Anita Meinert and Scott Cressley.

The concerts are free and open to the public.
