Youth Outdoor Field Day
Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Russell Wildlife Area

Join the Mahaska County Conservation Board and local conservation groups on Saturday, September 20th for a whole day of hands-on outdoor activities for kids! The event will be held from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm with the check in booth open at 8:30 am. Cost is $5.00 per child and it includes a t-shirt and lunch for the child and one lunch for a parent. Kids will be placed into groups that will go from station to station to learn about many outdoor activities. Pre-registration is required. Registration forms can be found at www.mahaskaconservation.com (a registration form is attached to this email) or contact MCCB at (641)673-9327. Registration ends on September 15 at 12:00 pm!

The activities this year include:

· Archery (Mahaska Fan Club, NWTF) – learn how to shoot a bow and practice shooting at targets
· Bowfishing (Bowfishing Assoc. of Iowa) – learn how to bowfish carp and rough fish in Iowa, take a ride on a bowfishing boat
· Waterfowling (Mahaska Co. Ducks Unlimited) – learn about hunting ducks and geese, watch a trained lab retrieve decoys off the pond
· Trapping (Mahaska Co. Pheasants Forever) – learn how trappers set and bait traps for various Iowa animals
· Rifle & BB Gun Shooting (Mahaska Co. Izaak Walton League) – learn how to safely shoot a .22 rifle or BB gun and practice shooting at a target
· Fishing (Iowa DNR) – cast your line into a pond to go fishing, all equipment will be provided

Dress appropriately for the weather on the day of the event. Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult. The Russell Wildlife Area is located 4 miles north of Oskaloosa on Hwy. 63 and one mile east on 200th Street. For more information, contact the Mahaska County Conservation Board at (641)673-9327.
