YMCA Freaky 5k ‘Run For Your Life’

[Oskaloosa, September 3, 2014] – Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 18, to share in the fun with the Mahaska County YMCA and co-event sponsors Clow Valve Company and Mahaska Health Partnership, at the 3rd annual Freaky 5k Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run. The Freaky 5k, a community event focused on fun and fitness, showcases a Kids’ Fun Run on the Community Stadium track at the Lacey Complex beginning at 8:00am, with the 5k race to follow at 9:00am. Last year’s races saw a jump in attendance from the inaugural race in 2012, with over one hundred competitors vying for personal bests and costume trophies.

Freaky 5k Planning Committee member, and YMCA Fitness Instructor, Lisa Wagner stated, “I was excited to join the 5k committee at the Y this year as we prepare for October 18. I know last year’s event saw cooler temperatures, but we had a great turnout, and it’s always exciting to see the creative ideas people come up with for costumes. This year co-sponsors Clow Valve Company and Mahaska Health Partnership have made it possible for us to again use chip timing for the 5k, and we hope all Kids’ Fun Run and 5k racers enjoy the new performance shirts we will be giving away the day of the races.”

To register for the Freaky 5k, or for information regarding any other Mahaska County YMCA programs, please stop by the YMCA at 414 North Third Street in Oskaloosa or contact Member Services at 641.673.8411. The 5K route, and additional Freaky 5k information is also available at www.MahaskaYMCA.org.
