Oskaloosa, Iowa – [August 15, 2014] Representative Guy Vander Linden celebrated the last day of YMCA Summer Camp this year by fishing with Y “campers” at Lake Keomah. Representative Guy Vander Linden has a long history of supporting the Mahaska County YMCA through membership and volunteer service with the Y Men’s Club. He has continued to support the YMCA by assisting with summer camp improvements the past couple of summers.

“We had a wonderful time and Representative Vander Linden was very helpful,” said Kristen Getzin, YMCA Youth Coordinator. “The fish were biting like crazy so camp staff didn’t have enough hands to help everyone. We are so glad he came and spent the morning with us.”

Representative Vander Linden has a history helping according to YMCA Executive Director Dawn Collins. “We recognize his time is valuable and this means so much to us. He has helped cut down trees as we reclaim some overgrown areas and he’s helped cut new trails in the camp during scheduled volunteer work days

The Mahaska County YMCA’s Bruce Sedrel Camp has served the Mahaska community since 1966. The 10-acre camp is located at Lake Keomah.

“We have made many improvements to the camp facility this year, but still have a lot of work to do.” said Getzin. “Now that we have a couple of trails cut, we will start developing more team-building, low ropes course activities we are already planning to add next year.
