OMS Student Wrestles His Way To National Title

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa Community School District students quietly accomplish great things, with many of them going unnoticed and unrecognized.

Sage Walker is an Oskaloosa Middle School student who is an example of that. He has reached for high goals, and continues to find success in doing so. Walker is the proud owner of an amazing accomplishment in being the National Champion in AAU wrestling. He achieved this goal in a recent trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. He also achieved pre-season national status at the UNI Dome.

Walker started his wrestling career with Kaos Gold and by the third grade had moved on to Sebolt Wrestling Academy to further develop his skills. “I got way better when I went to Sebolt Wrestling Academy”, said Walker.

Walker’s current record is 69-4, and he attributes his success on the mat to his coaches, Scott Sebolt and TJ Sebolt.

Walker said that it is scary at first stepping out onto the mat, but once the match starts, that all goes away.

“That was pretty cool”, was Walkers thoughts on winning the title. “I’ve never won two national tournaments in a row before. It was cool.”

Walker isn’t resting on his achievements, he’s scheduled to participate in another national tournament in the UNI Dome. He looks forward to his future in wrestling in high school, either Oskaloosa or Eddyville, and then in college at Iowa.

If wrestling had been removed from the Olympics, that would have taken his dream away of one day representing the United States on the Olympic stage.
