Beverly Garrels Howe, age 79, passed away March 23, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Beverly was born December 9, 1934 in Ottumwa the daughter of Ben and Pansy Brown Richards. She graduated from Ottumwa High School. Following graduation she was united in marriage to Clarence Garrels he preceded her in death.

Beverly worked as a CNA for several years at Sunnyslope Care Center in Ottumwa. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, mushroom hunting and traveling, but her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by four sons: David Smith of Farson, Clarence “Inky” (Glenda) Garrels of rural Hedrick, Ronald (Suzanne) Garrels of Farson, and William (Peg) Garrels of Ollie; Two daughters: Yvonne Tatar of Buffalo, Missouri; and Cindy (Brad) Nau of Ottumwa; Stepsons: Donnie (Simone) Soloman, Jimmy, Larry, Bernard and Clark Garrels; two step daughters: Mae Schimmelpfenning, and Ulala Conger; Eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister: Jewel Mitchell; and a very special friend: Jack Kellog.

Beverly was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert, Ray, John, and Thomas Richards; two sisters: Kathryn Russell and Thelma Shaver; a step-daughter, Sherry Bowers; a grandson, Brandon Garrels; and a great-grandson, Keaton Garrels.

As was her wish her body has been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
