Three Join Hohensee to Shape 2014 Iowa Barnstormers

DES MOINES – Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee has announced his coaching staff for the 2014 AFL season. Joining Coach Hohensee are the familiar faces of Ernesto Purnsley and David Paffenroth along with newcomer Stanley Wrubluski.

Returning for his third season as Defensive Coordinator is Ernesto “Netto” Purnsley. Purnsley has coached in the AFL for 14 seasons, beginning with stops in Albany, Indiana, and Colorado. As Defensive Coordinator in Colorado, his defense led the team to 3 division titles and an ArenaBowl XIX Championship in 2005. In 2008, Purnsley joined Hohensee in Chicago as Defensive Coordinator for the Chicago Rush. In 2010, he was named Head Coach of the now defunct Utah Blaze, however his tenure lasted just one year. Purnsley reunited with Hohensee in Philadelphia for the 2011 season before following him to Iowa in 2012.

The 2014 season will mark Paffenroth’s second with the Iowa Barnstormers. Formerly the team’s 2012 Defensive Line Coach, Paffenroth’s primary role will now be to oversee the developing offensive line. In 2010 he was the Offensive Coordinator for Coach Purnsley with the now defunct Utah Blaze. Paffenroth’s other coaching experiences include stops at Penn State, Southern Illinois, West Texas A&M, and Missouri Western.

Wrubluski enters his third season in the Arena Football League as the Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator for the Barnstormers. Prior to the 2014 season, Wrubluski was in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida coaching for the Jacksonville Sharks and has also spent time with the Orlando Predators. He spent one year with the Jacksonville Tomcats of the AF2 and a season in the Indoor Football League with the Eastern Kentucky Drillers. Wrubluski’s varied college coaching experiences include tenures at the University of Texas – El Paso, Valdosta State, Jacksonville University, University of Pikeville, and Lambuth University.
