Oskaloosa sent a Junior Varsity team to the Regional National History Bowl that was held in Sigourney, IA on Saturday. It was the first time that Oskaloosa had competed in this event. High school government teacher Jeff Lorentzen and his student teacher Shelby Chisholm recruited players and prepared for the event. Teams can have a maximum of 6 players and Oskaloosa took 5. Pictured above left to right for the back row. Spencer Nelson, Jeb Shaw, John Hammes, Mr. Lorentzen, Aaron Bowie. In front: Erin Shannon All are freshman, except Erin Shannon who is a sophomore.

Approximately, 10 teams showed up for the regional competition. Winners from every state will compete in Washington DC the weekend of April 25-27th. Since, Oskaloosa won the JV regional competition they do qualify for the National Competition. At this point, Mr. Lorentzen is unsure whether they will actually go to Nationals due to financial reasons. The team would most likely need sponsors in order to cover travel expenses.
