Plethora of New Honors for Football Team
Oskaloosa–As the Statesmen football team relaxes a bit during its bye week, it can relish in some more much-deserved kudos.
Opening up the list are Preseason All-America awards for two players, kicker Marcus Kerrigan (Sr., Cary, Ill., Sociology) and quarterback Taylor Parsons (Sr., The Woodlands, Texas, Sociology). The duo was honored by the Collegiate Development Football League.
Kerrigan was picked as a second-teamer, while Parsons was an honorable mention.
Kerrigan was also selected as a Special Teams Player of the Week by the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League and by Beyond Sports Network.
He was 4-for-4 in extra points and averaged 46.0 yards over three punts (long of 48) in last Saturday’s 34-8 demolition of #9 Bethel (Tenn.).
The senior kicker/punter was joined on BSN’s teams by the entire defensive unit, led by Nick DiMarco (Jr., St. Charles, Mo., Physical Education).
DiMarco was a Defensive POW, while the Statesmen were picked as the Defense of the Week. The junior notched five tackles, including three for loss and two quarterback sacks. The defense limited the Wildcats to just 156 total yards, including only 37 on the ground. Bethel did not reach positive numbers in total offense until the second half.
