Nina M. Current, 95, of Barnes City, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

Nina was born December 14, 1917, near Montezuma, Iowa, the daughter of John and Effie Tolles McKee. On December 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Perry Current in Oskaloosa; Perry died February 12, 1990. Together they farmed near Montezuma, then Eddyville, and lastly in the New Sharon and Barnes City area for many years. She was a baptized member of the Regular Baptist Church in Montezuma. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Nina loved to dance. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, camping, playing games, watching rodeos and traveling.

Her family includes her five children and their spouses, Marvin and Joyce Current of Oskaloosa, Jerry and LeAnn Current of New Sharon, Sharon and Jerry Thompson of Oskaloosa, Larry and Betty Current of Oskaloosa, and Cheryle and Dave Maudlin of Barnes City; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; a sister, Inez Wells of Newton; many nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Lester Thompson of Montezuma

In addition to her husband, Nina was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson: Larry Thompson; a daughter-in-law: Sheryl Current; a sister: Elsie Agnew; and 2 brothers-in-law: Carl Wells and Cecil Agnew.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dr. Douglas Smiley officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at New Sharon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin after 1 P.M. Friday in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice.
