Oskaloosa, Iowa – The 3rd annual ‘Ladies Night’ visited the Musco Technology Center on the campus of William Penn University Friday night.

The gala, filled with fashion, food and fun along with some raffles helped to raise funds for the Mahaska County Relay for Life.

For the first time, this year also featured a ‘Queen of Bling’ contest. Contestants were nominated by the loudest applause. Stephanie VanMersbergen was the winner of the gift package that was estimated to be over $300.00 in value.

A couple of other fun auctions during the evening included a purse auction and a dessert auction.

This year’s top desserts were: orange cream cheese rolls that were made by Deb DeJong for $105.00. The raspberry swirl cheesecake made by Steve DeJong went for $100.00.

During the purse auction, two new couch purses provided by a local business owner went for $150.00 each.

Candi Slobe, who help to organize the event, took a few moments to thank some people that helped to make the night happen. “Thanks so much to all the vendors, merchants donating raffle prizes, businesses and individuals donating purses and desserts. Lori Smith’s Zumba demonstration, Maurices’ Style show, Flavours by Sodexo for the appetizers and Grate Expectation for the desserts.”

Jeff Akers was once again emcee of the event. Wine tasting was provided by CB Liquor. Some ladies were chosen to have make-overs.

Slobe said that, “Each year we move to a bigger venue.” Last year’s event was held at the ‘Iowa Building’. “That’s exciting for us,” Slobe said of the continued growth.
