Clayton passed away Sunday at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Clayton David Kool was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, October 27, 1933, to Fred and Freida Hewitt Kool. On July 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Moffet in Oskaloosa. He worked for various businesses and then for himself as Kool Construction, Kool Rental Properties, and remodeled about 20 homes. He operated Kool Pest Control as “The Bug Man” doing general pest control and treatment for termites. Clayton also worked with Jo Ann in Kool Janitorial Supply, a business which served clients all over the county. In his “semi retirement” he spent his time collecting marbles, keys, coins, pens and pencils. He also spent a lot of time scrap-booking family history. Clayton joined the National Guard Red Bull Calvary, Battery D, 113th Armored Division based in Oskaloosa at age 17 ½. He achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant serving 22 years and earned the honor of Soldier-of-the-Year before retiring.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann of Oskaloosa, a daughter, Kimberly Kool of Oskaloosa, a son and wife, Kevin and Teresa Kool of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandson, Brandon Clayton Kool and granddaughter, Alicia Janel Moran and husband, Nic Moran, all of Cedar Falls; great-grandchildren: MacKenzie, Johnathan, Hana, Barrett, and Emma; three brothers: Tony Kool, Sam (Alice) Kool and Howard (Janet) Kool; a sister, Kathy Rawson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Andrew and Harry Kool; sisters: Stella Cook and Zua Kool, and sister-in-law, Sandra Kool, and brother-in-law, Carl Rawson.

Visitation: will begin after 1 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, February 06, 2013 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 07, 2013 at St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ.
Interment: Forest Cemetery with Military Honors by the Oskaloosa Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ.
