GRINNELL’S TOLU ALABI NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FIRST TEAM

GRINNELL, Iowa –Grinnell College’s Tolu Alabi ’13, a 5-9 guard, has been named to the District 8 NCAA Division III Academic All-District women’s basketball first team.

The award is presented by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). By being named to the first team, Alabi is eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Alabi, a computer science/mathematics major from Garki, Abuja, Nigeria (Model Secondary School), ranks among the top 10 in the Midwest Conference in four categories – points per game (13.9), rebounds per game (7.9), offensive rebounds per game (2.6) and minutes played per game (34.3).

She is also among Grinnell’s leaders in assists and rebounds with 1.7 and 1.4 a game, respectively. Her efforts have helped the Pioneers to an 8-6 league mark.

Alabi, a team captain, is the Pioneers’ first Academic All-District selection since Hannah Wolf ’08 accomplished the feat in the 2007-08 campaign.
