We as a country obliviously face big challenges. We have record debt, and record deficits. There are 24 million Americans out of work. We have millions of Americans who now rely on the government to get by. Our society is divided over issues like whether we should pay for birth control or whether the upper class should pay more taxes because they can afford it.

When you turn on the news, and see what all is going on or if you look at it in the big picture you don’t recognize America. America has never been about a certain class taking care of the lower class or a government taking care of its people. The America I was always told about was a country of people who sought opportunity. It didn’t matter what race or sex you were or religious beliefs you held. It didn’t matter how much the next guy was making at his job. All that mattered was that you were an American, and that the rights you had were sustained. But now we see that politicians have divided Americans. We have allowed them to divide us.

They have pended the middle class against the upper class. They convinced people that for some reason the rich should have to give more of their money to the government because “they can afford it.” That they should pay more in taxes because our debt is growing faster than ever before. They have convinced a majority of Americans that the reason why our debt is growing so fast is not because we spend too much, but that they don’t get enough money.

America is not about someone pulling someone else’s weight. Instead of raising and creating taxes, how about we try to create new taxpayers. We need to make a business friendly environment in our communities so that we can attract businesses, and employ people. We have 24 million people in this country that are looking for a job. We need to reduce taxes for EVERYBODY, not just a certain class, so that they money they earned is kept and they can use it to get ahead which will create economic growth and more jobs. No matter what President Obama says, this system has worked, and it has built the greatest, strongest, free economic power this world has seen.

We as a society and a nation need to realize that if we keep asking for more, and more that eventually we will run out. The upper class cannot financially support our government, nor can any of us. We have to demand that our government get its fiscal house in order. We as a society need to see that America wasn’t built by a certain class, and it wasn’t built off the backs of a certain class. America was built off the sweat and hard work that everybody put in. Though everybody came from different walks of life, and sought a different path, everybody contributed to the greatest nation in history. We need to restore that America. Where everybody has an opportunity to succeed. Where everybody is in this together. Even though we face difficult challenges, and that, in my opinion, we have lost our way. I still believe that there is a shining city behind those dark clouds. After all we are Americans, and we can get through anything as long as we stand together. I believe in this country, I believe in the American dream, and I believe we can come back stronger than ever before, together.

Sincerely,

Austin Harris
