Terry Wayne Van Rheenen, 58, of Des Moines died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Terry was born Thursday, September 23, 1954 in Oskaloosa, the son of Marion L. and Beverly J. Sonderegger Van Rheenen. He graduated from the North Mahaska High School with the class of 1972. Following high school he attended Drake University for one year until going to work at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella. On June 20, 1975, he was united in marriage to Kim Funk in Grinnell and they later divorced. Terry later moved to Des Moines and worked at Ag Belt until 2005 when he moved to Tucson, Arizona. While in Tucson, Terry started a business making home medication deliveries in the Tucson area. In 2011, Terry moved back to Des Moines and went back to work at Ag Belt and continued his delivery business in the Des Moines area. He was a huge fan of the Packers, the Yankees, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and his granddaughters were the center of his life. Terry was a member of the Saylorville Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son: Justin (& Terase) Van Rheenen of Lake Ann, Michigan; his daughter: Stacy Van Rheenen of Des Moines; two granddaughters: Emmy Van Rheenen and Ayla Wilkinson; his ex-wife: Kim Van Rheenen of Tucson, Arizona; a brother: Steve (& Lisa) Van Rheenen of Oskaloosa; a brother-in-law: Mike (& Patty) Funk of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Pat Nemmers officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 6 – 8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to his granddaughter’s education fund.
