Janette Latchaw, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Pella Regional Health Center Long Term Care in Pella.

Janette was born February 19, 1932, in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Kenneth and Marletta Fitzgerald Fry. Janette graduated from the Clara Barton Vocational High School in Baltimore, Maryland with the class of 1950. While in high school she was active in student government and choir. Early in life Janette attended a Billy Graham “Youth for Christ” rally in Baltimore, it was at this rally that she was so moved to lead a life deeply rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ and a lifelong thirst for the gospel and righteousness began. She went on to graduate from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a major in Missions in 1954, and in 1955 earned her degree in Christian Education. It was while attending Moody Bible Institute that she met her future husband, Boyd Latchaw; and the two were married on June 18, 1955, at Baltimore, Maryland. Following their marriage the two of them spent many years serving on the mission field. This ministry took them to many destinations; at every stop along the way Janette was very involved in their ministry teaching Sunday School and filling in wherever necessary. Later, she received her B.A. degree from Moody. Once her children had moved from the home, Janette and Boyd moved to Valparaiso, Indiana, were Janette worked at a local bank. In May of 1998 they retired and moved to Oskaloosa to be near their son, Bryan. Boyd reflects that Janette was a person of strong Christian character who lived out her faith every day. Her courage, conviction, cheerfulness, and compassionate spirit displayed to others that she was the “real deal” about living a life pleasing to God. About nine years ago, Janette was recognized by the Moody Bible Institute for her 50 plus years of service to our Lord.

Her family includes her husband of over 57 years, Boyd Latchaw of Oskaloosa; two sons Alan (& Christine) Latchaw of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bryan (& Betty Ann) Latchaw of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, Aaron Latchaw, Bob Latchaw, Matthew Latchaw, and Jana Latchaw; a brother and his wife, Edward and Delores Fry of Severna Park, Maryland; and a niece, Linda (& Chuck) Seashultz of Pasadena, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
