Oskaloosa Football Fires Up On First Day Of Camp
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The sound of a whistle and a coach barking out orders is a sure sign that football season isn’t very far away.
Football camp for 2012 kicked off today at the practice field behind the Oskaloosa High School, with kids in grades 7 to 12 participating.
Coaches were all assigned specific areas to work on with the athletes. Kicking, passing and blocking were all broken down into 20 minute segments so each person could try a new position and a new skill in order for coaches and players to evaluate performance in those areas.
Coach Schilb didn’t yet have a head count to the free camp.
“We’re going to try and increase skills,” Schilb said.
Players currently work out at strength and conditioning in the mornings, and the time on the field will be all about developing skills.
Regular season practice begins on Monday, with the team making their upcoming debut in the traditional Old Shoe Game.
