Funds available for storm victims in Marion, Marshall and Tama counties

(DES MOINES)- Gov. Branstad has approved two proclamations to enact the State Individual Assistance Grant Program. The program will be made available to Iowa residents living in the severe storm affected counties of Marion, Marshall and Tama.

The approval of the State Individual Assistance Grant Program is in response to two separate storm systems that moved through the state causing significant damage.

On June 26th, Marion County was hit by severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and flash flooding.

On July 10th and 11th, severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornados passed through Marshall and Tama counties causing downed limbs, trees and power lines.

The State Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants to families with household incomes at or below twice the federal poverty index. The maximum grant a family can receive is $5,000. The program is launched with a governor’s declaration and at the request of local officials. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States and need to provide all receipts for replacement items claimed.
