Christopher Moode
Deep River. Christopher Moode, 59 of Deep River, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 at his home in Deep River. Memorial services will begin at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 1:00 pm on Monday, July 18, 2011 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Sixteen Cemetery in rural Thornburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice.
Christopher Wayne Moode, son of Richard and Dorothy (Darland) Moode was born on February 22, 1952 at his grandparents home in What Cheer, Iowa. He graduated from Tri-County High School with the class of 1970. Chris enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1970 and was honorably discharged in November of 1972. Upon his return home he began trucking cattle to Chicago. On November 30, 1974, Chris was united in marriage to Marca Axtell at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in What Cheer. To this union two daughters were born, Angela Marie and Jennifer Lynn. On December 2, 1974 he began his lifelong career as a finish bull-dozer operator. First for a rock quarry, then in 1978 he began what became his passion working as a finish dozer operator. He became a card holder in the International Union 234B where he was a respected operator. He did many of the four lane highways around Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Chris loved to read, hunt, fish, do his wood for heating of the house and most of all his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marca Moode of Montezuma; two daughters, Angie Hall of Montezuma and Jennifer (Curt) Anderson of Montezuma; a step son, Christopher (Laura) Blommers of Manchester; his mother, Dorothy Hansen of Fallbrook, California; seven grandchildren, Bergan Blommers, Laiken Blommers, Harper Blommers, Jocelyn Hall, Saphire Gatton, Riley Gatton and Maddux Anderson; three brothers, Richard Moode of What Cheer, Tim (Mary) Moode of What Cheer and John Moode of What Cheer and a sister, Donna (Terry) Bair of Keswick.
Chris is preceded in death by his father, Richard Moode and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
