Central’s Ziskovsky Halcomb named woman of the year nominee
PELLA, Iowa —Central College graduate Jill Ziskovsky Halcomb (Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes) has been tabbed the Iowa Conference’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The award recognizes senior student-athletes that have excelled in academics, athletics, community service and leadership throughout their college careers.
A three-time team MVP and two-year captain for Central’s track and field program, Halcomb received all-America distinction seven times. She placed fifth at the 2010 and 2011 NCAA championships in both the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon and competed on three all-America 4×400-meter relay squads, posting a second-place finish at the national outdoor meet in May. Halcomb has also captured six league titles in four different events (4×400 relay, long jump, pentathlon and heptathlon).
Halcomb compiled a 3.94 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) with a double major in communication studies and Spanish. She is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America honoree, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and is a three-time academic all-league pick. Halcomb is also a Central College Presidential Scholar and was a member of the Alpha Zeta Mu honor society.
The NCAA Committee of Women’s Athletics (CWA) selection committee will determine the top 10 student-athletes in Divisions I, II and III in August and then select the top three per division in September. The top 10 honorees and nine finalists will be honored at a dinner Oct. 16 in Indianapolis where the NCAA Woman of the Year Award winner will be announced.
Halcomb is the sixth student-athlete from Central to earn the nomination for the award and the first since Katie Pederson was chosen in 2006 for volleyball and women’s track and field. Prior to 2006 honorees were chosen by state rather than conference.
