Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, March 25, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dwayne Poe of the First Church of the Open Bible officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery
Virginia passed away late Sunday evening at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 20 days.
Virginia Louise Hoy was born November 30, 1915 in Lacey, Iowa to Howard and Kathleen Reiner Masteller. Virginia was a 1933 graduate of Lacey High School. Following her education she worked as a secretary for various companies in the area. She married Wilbur Hoy March 5, 1938 in Oskaloosa. During the early years of their marriage they farmed near Bussey and Virginia stayed at home raising their children. In 1962 Virginia began working as a school secretary at Twin Cedars School. In 1973 she began working at the State Bank of Bussey. Wilbur and Virginia moved from their farm into Oskaloosa in 1977 and Virginia then began working part-time as a teller for Iowa State Bank in Oskaloosa. Virginia was a member of Central United Methodist Church, King’s Daughters, TTT, Oskaloosa Women’s Club and Farm Bureau; she was a lifetime member of Nelson Pioneer Farm, and a former 4-H leader and former member of the Bussey Women’s Club. Virginia enjoys knitting, crocheting and reading. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbur on April 25, 1992; a grandson, Chad Hoy; a granddaughter, Jill Hoy Bauman; and two sisters: Mary Simonich and Francine Brewer.
Virginia’s family includes her four children: Mary Ann Hoy of Oskaloosa; Donald and Mary Hoy of Weatherby Lake, Missouri; Dean and Carolyn Hoy of Knoxville and Gene and Linda Hoy of Richland; nine grandchildren: Katie Hoy Paul, Amanda Hoy, Tim Hoy, Bryan Hoy, Mike Hoy, Matt Hoy, Dave Hoy, Derek Hoy, and Dan Hoy; 23 great grandchildren and a cousin, Annette Davis of Knoxville.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbur on April 25, 1992; a grandson, Chad Hoy; a granddaughter, Jill Hoy Bauman; and two sisters: Mary Simonich and Francine Brewer.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church Bus Ministry, Bussey United Methodist Church or Lacey United Methodist Church.
