George Oaks
Oskaloosa. George Oaks, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born November 28, 1926, at Somerset, Colorado, the son of William Harrison and Effie Nelvinia Uptografft Oaks. He attended school in Colorado. On September 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoschour; Dorothy died October 19, 2010. He spent his working years as a union sheet metal worker. In the late 1960’s he went to Vietnam and worked as a civilian tech. helping with the war effort. He retired in December of 1990 from the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #9 in Denver, Colorado. In retirement he worked as a security guard for various companies. He enjoyed bowling, racing, football, boxing and old western movies. He truly enjoyed playing his harmonica.
His family includes his four children: Patricia Oaks of Denver, Colorado, Terry (& Carol) Oaks of Oskaloosa, Larry (& Lori) Oaks of Oskaloosa, and Brenda Ham of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Edward Oaks; and 5 sisters: Anna May Fischer, Lois Pearl Billingham, Florence Sanquist, Lucille Harrington, and Alice Clark.
Funeral services will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary in Littleton, Colorado, at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
