Donavon Latcham

Montezuma. Donavon Latcham, 77 formerly of New Sharon and Montezuma passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Griffin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Friday, March 11, 2011 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the Masonic Cemetery in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may made in the family’s name.

Donavon Lyle Latcham, son of Cleon and Dorothy (Wheeler) Latcham was born on January 16, 1934 in Mahaska County. He was a 1948 graduate of North Mahaska High School. On June 30, 1953, Donavon was united in marriage to Patricia Hamilton in New Sharon. To this union seven children were born, Michael, Deborah, Timothy, Steven, Mindy, David Scott and Melissa. They were later divorced. He later married Lois Tatum on November 25, 1991. Donavon owned and operated Latcham Vacuum Cleaner Supply Company for over 50 years. He won Vacuum Salesman of the Year Award several different times. Donavon enjoyed golfing, mushroom hunting and most of all birds. He was a member of the Montezuma Faith Christian Center, the Oskaloosa Assembly of God Church and the New Sharon Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Newland, North Carolina; his children, Tim (Susan) Latcham of Tracy, Mindy (Jeff Dively) Latcham-Smith of Omaha, Scott (Jana) Latcham of Montezuma and Melissa (David) Hendrix of Jacksonville, Florida; four step-children, Sharon, Susan, Sandra and Jimmy and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Donavon is preceded in death by his parents, Cleon and Dorothy Latcham; three children, Michael Latcham, Deborah Latcham and Steven Latcham and a sister, Carolyn Lynn.
