Lindsey M. Stewart, 14, of Grinnell died March 4, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Grinnell High School Gymnasium with the Rev Len Eberhart and Deacon Diane Eberbart, Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Kathy O’Connor will be organist, Andrea O’Connor soloist, and members of the Grinnell High School choir will perform. Pallbearers will be Matt Stewart, Jeff Omer, Mark and Tyler Lloyd, and Andrew, Aaron, and Alex Logan. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. The family present will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lindsey M. Stewart Memorial Fund, PO BOX 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Lindsey was born May 15, 1996, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Linda Omer Stewart. She was raised in Grinnell and was currently a freshman at Grinnell High School.
She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church where she was baptized November 17, 1996 and confirmed May 9, 2010.
Lindsey enjoyed arts and crafts, playing cards and board games, baking, listening to new country music, softball, and especially dance. It was the simple things in life, like family gatherings, that Lindsey received the most joy from. Love was what mattered most to her, she always gave more than she took. Lindsey’s courageous battle with cancer only strengthened her faith and desire to live life to its fullest.
Survivors include her parents, Robert and Linda of Grinnell; one brother, Matthew of Grinnell; her grandmother, Eileen Omer of Grinnell; several aunts and uncles, Jeff and Kay Omer of Spring, Texas, Mark and Patty Lloyd of Grinnell, Cindy and Loren Logan of West Salem, Wisconsin, Connie and Adam Stewart-Dawson of Santa Monica, California, and Betty and Richard Pagel of Brooklyn; ten cousins, Jessica and Jeremy Omer, Jamie, Tyler and Alyssa Lloyd, Andrew, Aaron and Alex Logan, and Travis and Josh Pagel; and several other relatives. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Judge Albert Omer and Phillip and Emma Stewart.
