Lynn Van Weelden Olsen Renner
Estes Park, CO.. Lynn Van Weelden Olsen Renner of Estes Park, Colorado, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died at home Saturday February 12, 2011. She was 61 years old. Lynn Van Weelden was born May 30, 1949 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Richard & Joyce (Van Roekel) Van Weelden. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School in 1967. Lynn played piano from a very young age and also studied organ. She was an avid reader and writer, working as a reporter for the Oskaloosa Herald immediately upon high school graduation. She married Daryl Olsen on February 16, 1974. To this union were born three daughters; Mandy, Brooke and Megan. The couple later divorced. While her children were growing up, Lynn stayed at home and became actively involved in their activities. Later, she became a commercial real estate broker and enjoyed a successful career as an asset manager with Old Vine Management Group. She lived in Des Moines; Omaha, Nebraska; Richardson, Texas; and in Colorado at Castle Rock, Denver, Indian Hills, and Estes Park. Lynn was a woman of deep faith, and was an active member of several Presbyterian and Reformed Churches over the years serving as Deacon and organist. She was also involved in children’s ministries.
On May 16, 2009, Lynn married Allan Renner of Estes Park. In October of that year, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her hobbies in life included playing and coaching softball, camping, kayaking, reading, quilting, sewing, flower gardening and pressed flower arranging.
Her family includes her husband, Allan of Estes Park; daughters Mandy (Dorian) Christian of Aurora, CO; Brooke (Jason) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; and Megan Bland of Denver, CO; grandchildren Caleb, Hannah, Andrew, Micah and Paul Christian and Cole and Tate Mitchell; step children LeAnn (Randy) McCollum of Trinidad, CO; Stacey (Mark) Carpenter of Nashville, TN and Matthew (Dorothy) Renner of Denver, CO; step grandchildren Clara B. and Sam Carpenter and Shiloh, Cody and Kylie McCollum. She is also survived by her parents Richard & Joyce Van Weelden of Oskaloosa; siblings Leon Van Weelden of Springfield, MO; Roxie (Don) Morrison of Oskaloosa and Rick (Cheryl) Van Weelden of Eddyville. She also leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews and many beloved friends. Lynn was preceded in death by her grandparents and her brother, Allen Van Weelden.
A Celebration of Lynn’s life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, with Reverend Don DeGlopper officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements. No visitation is planned.
