GRINNELL’S WISTEY IS NATIONAL LEADER IN 100 BREASTSTROKE, BRUS IS 3RD IN 200 BACKSTROKE
GRINNELL, Iowa – With her dazzling performance at the 2011 Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend, Grinnell College’s Imelda Wistey ’14 has moved to the top of the list.
Wistey, from West Des Moines, Iowa, had a clocking of 1:02.55 in the 100-yard breaststroke, which ranks first among all NCAA Division III swimmers in the event. The second-fastest time is 1:02.86 by Emory’s April Whitley, the former leader in the event.
Wistey also holds the eighth-fastest time in the 200 breaststroke at 2:20.01. She has automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in both events.
Grinnell’s Michael Brus ’14, who is from Davenport, Iowa, is also among the nation’s elite, as he ranks third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.46. He swam that at the MWC Championships, and that time automatically qualifies for the NCAA meet.
Brus is also ranked eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.28.
The NCAA Championships are slated for March 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.
