Ted Butler

Obituary:
Theodore Frank Butler was born on December 31, 1922 in Washington, DC, the son of Winn David Butler and Irene Juliet (Richardson) Butler.
Ted attended high school at the San Diego Union Academy and then college at La Sierra College. He then went on to enlist in the United States Army Air Force where he served as an Aircraft Mechanic during WWII. Following an honorable discharge from the service, Ted returned to San Diego.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Joyce McLaughlin on August 21, 1964 in Las Vegas, NV. The two lived in California until 1965 when they moved to the Cedar Falls and Waterloo area. In 1979 Ted and Marilyn moved to Knoxville where Ted worked at the VA Hospital for 9 years. He also worked as a plastering contractor, representative for the blind, and most recently at Fareway. In 1970, Ted was the State President of Community Services for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and organized the first men’s group.
Ted enjoyed flying and had owned his own plane at one time. He loved to read the bible and enjoyed the opportunity to discuss what he read. Most of all, Ted loved his family and prayed for them often.
Ted passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at his home at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 20 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Bob Butler; sister, Doris McCrary; and daughters, Marie Butler and Sandra Mardisic.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Mona (Tom) Bergey of Bayfield, CO, Cherie (Rod) Rogers of Stafford, VA, Cindy (Ralph) Diaz of Bellflower, CA, Ted Butler, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Crystal (Don) Doane of Berthoud, CO, Joseph (Darla) Toulouse of Avon Park, FL, Fonda (Kelly) Seifert of Berrien Center, MI, Brenda (Owen) Johnson of Silver Spring, MD, and a sister, Elaine Smith of Knoxville.
