Donna Hostetler
Pella. Donna Hostetler, 74, of rural Pella died on Monday, February 21, 2011, at her home in rural Pella. She was born December 17, 1936, at Waukegan, Illinois, the daughter of Gordon and Olive Hansen Martin. Donna grew up in Lake Villa, Illinois. She graduated from the Antioch Township High School with the class of 1954. Donna furthered her education at Northern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education in 1972. On June 21, 1958, Donna was united in marriage to Larry Hostetler at Antioch, Illinois. Following their marriage they moved to Dundee, Illinois, where she and her husband lived for 42 years. During their time in Dundee, Donna was a teacher and homebound student tutor until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Dundee for over 40 years and St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa for over 5 years, the Dundee Jaycettes, and sang for over 20 years with the Elgin Choral Union. In 2005, Donna and husband, Larry, moved to rural Pella, Iowa. Donna quickly made friends throughout the Pella and Oskaloosa communities. At the time of her death she was active and faithful to her church, PEO, the Central College Community Chorus, the Mahaska County Master Gardeners, and a life-long member of the Audubon Society. Throughout her life she thoroughly enjoyed music, especially singing and listening to her children and grandchildren play in their school bands. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, embroidery, and stained glass.
Her family includes her husband of over 52 years, Larry Hostetler; a son: Dean (& Pam) Hostetler of Belvidere, Illinois; 2 daughters: Leslie (& Dave) Nelson of Wichita, Kansas and Amy (& Richard) Nossaman of Pella, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Hope Hostetler, Jessica Hostetler, Elizabeth Hostetler, Paul Volanti, Sarah Volanti, Joshua Nossaman, Lauren Nossaman; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Karen Curtis of Lake Villa, Illinois and Jaclyn Vos of Antioch, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Robert Elfvin officiating. As was Donna’s wish, her body has been cremated and no visitation is planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements. There will be a memorial service held at the St. James Episcopal Church in West Dundee, Illinois, at a later date. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Mound Prairie Cemetery in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella, St. James Episcopal Chuch in Oskaloosa, or Elgin Choral Union in Elgin, Illinois.
