Interment: Following the funeral service. February 24, 2011 at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn, IA.
Charles was born on February 17, 1923, in Hartwick, Iowa to Edmond and Blanche Hendricks DePauw. He attended country school and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1940. On July 10, 1945, he was united in marriage to Erma Ruth Smith at her parent’s home near Brooklyn. The couple farmed north of Malcom and in the Brooklyn area for 39 years winning several conservations awards. During that time he served as a director for the Brooklyn Co-op Creamery and the Malcom Farmer’s Elevator.
Charles was a member of the Madison Church of Christ serving as a trustee, deacon and elder. After the family moved to Grinnell in 1986 he became a member of the Grinnell Christian Church. While living in Grinnell he was employed by Lang Brothers Equipment and Southard Implement.
Survivors include his wife, Erma DePauw of Grinnell; his children, Janet (Chuck) Gorsch of West Burlington, IA, James (Brenda) DePauw of St. Charles, IA, John (Carol) DePauw of Council Bluffs, IA; Joel (Rosanne) DePauw of Collinsville, OK., and Julie (Joe) Kriegel of Brooklyn, IA; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Mary)DePauw of Brooklyn and Wallace DePauw of Marion, IA; one sister, Donna Henning of Hartwick; and one sister-in-law, Carolyn DePauw of Galena, KS; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Lucie DePauw; and one brother, Marvin DePauw.
A memorial fund in his name will be established at a later date.
