Question of the Week: “Who do you stand with in Wisconsin’s budget battle: Governor Walker, or the Union?”

Last week we asked you, “Do you believe that the city should ban firearms on city owned property?” 56% of voters said no to firearms being banned on city owned property, while 41% believed that they should be banned. 2 votes or 3% were unsure on the matter at this time. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the views of Osky News.

This week we turn to a question that is more national in nature. Protests in Wisconsin have put the relationship of the Government and the Unions in question. With states facing budget shortfalls, they are looking at different ways of attempting to trim their budgets. Wisconsin faces over a 3 billion dollar deficit. Their new Republican Governor, Scott Walker, has made some decisions that have proven unpopular with Democrats and Unions alike. The Unions, including teachers, have filled the Wisconsin State House protesting what they say is the end of collective bargaining. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Senate Democrats have left the state so that a vote on the issue would not be possible until, they say, some of their demands are taken care of. Democrats are saying Republicans are being unreasonable, All the while the teachers continue to demonstrate leaving students unable to attend school in many districts.

The teachers and unions continue to stand firm on collective bargaining stating, ‘it’s a cornerstone of labor.’

The Tea Party and others have started to rally around the governor, stating he was recently voted in with the mandate of balancing the budget. Proponents of the governor say that state union workers do have it much better than the private sector, and should have to pay for more of their own retirement, and other benefits. They say that without these cuts, the state will have no choice but to lay off workers, and/or go more into debt. Republicans have sent state troopers to the home of the Minority Leader in order to bring him back to the State House to fulfill his duty to the State of Wisconsin.

The question of the week is, “Who do you stand with in Wisconsin’s budget battle: Governor Walker, or the Union?”

Now it’s your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 pm next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting numbers. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at info@oskynews.org or visit our Facebook page.
