Blanche Lavina Osborn was born on August 7, 1922 in Malcom, Iowa to John S. and Blanche C. Christianson Osborn. She was raised on the family farm and attended schools in Montezuma and Brooklyn.

After graduating from Brooklyn High School, she took her teaching course and started teaching that fall. She attended Drake University during the summer and weekends to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She devoted her life to teaching and received the Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the State of Iowa. Lavina retired from her teaching career at Bailey Park in 1987. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association. She moved to the Mayflower Community in 2003.

Lavina held a great passion for gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed purchasing a new Chevy every other year. In her retirement, she got to travel the United States and even Europe.

Lavina is survived by her brother Glenn (Phyllis) Osborn of Montezuma and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John, Lester and Raymond Osborn and her sisters Dorothy Osborn, Edith Osborn and Mamie McKee.

Memorials may be directed to the Mayflower Community Health Care Center and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
