Oskaloosa Cross Country Teams Place Fifth and Sixth at Chariton Invitational

CHARITON, Iowa — The Oskaloosa boys cross country team placed fifth among 15 scoring teams, while the girls finished sixth among 13 teams at the Chariton Invitational on Monday, Oct. 5.

The boys scored 133 points and finished only two points behind fourth-place Red Oak. Pella Christian won the boys team championship with 44 points. The Oskaloosa girls recorded 164 points, while PCM won the girls title with 49.

With the Little Hawkeye Conference meet and district competition approaching, Oskaloosa coach Mike Comfort said the Indians need to turn their strong practices into stronger race performances.

Comfort said, “Both teams seem kind of stuck in place right now. We are running some really good workouts but we can’t seem to translate it into a race. For the next two weeks as we head into conference and districts we really need to focus on taking care of ourselves to bring those performances from practice to races.”

Smith Leads Oskaloosa Boys

Lane Smith led the Oskaloosa boys by placing eighth overall in 17 minutes, 38.91 seconds.
