Oskaloosa Sweeps Pella Christian in Wednesday Doubleheader
OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa Indians earned a doubleheader sweep over Pella Christian on Wednesday, winning 19-1 in the first game and 6-4 in the second.
Jake North led the Indians in the opening game with four hits and six RBIs. North doubled in the first inning to drive in a run, singled in the second inning to score another run, and added two-run singles in the fourth inning.
Oskaloosa broke the first game open with nine runs in the top of the fourth inning. Trey Parks tripled to score a run, and North added a two-run single. Tate Peterson, Cael Ashman and Linus Morrison also had RBI singles during the inning. Morrison drove in two runs later in the inning, and North added another two-run single.
The Indians finished with 18 hits in the game. Morrison, Parks, Ashman, Jack Miller and Colin Johnson each had multiple hits, adding balance to the offense.
Miller earned the win for Oskaloosa. He allowed one hit and one run over one and one-third innings while striking out one batter. Maddox Maxwell and Carter Bonnet each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
North also stole two bases, and the Indians turned a double play in the field.
The second game was closer, but Oskaloosa found another way to win.
The Indians tied the game in the top of the third inning after a Pella Christian error, then took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Bonnet. Ty Edgar gave Oskaloosa a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning with a single.
Bonnet earned the win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out five batters and walked one.
Johnson started the game for Oskaloosa and pitched two innings. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one and walking one.
Oskaloosa collected 10 hits in the second game. North, Edgar and Johnson each had two hits. Miller drove in two runs for the Indians, and the defense turned another double play to close it out.
