Oskaloosa girls track earns five runner-up finishes at Tulip Time Relays

PELLA — The Oskaloosa girls track and field team competed Thursday night at the Tulip Time Relays in Pella, facing a loaded field filled with strong competition from across the state.

The Indians finished seventh in the team standings with 67 points, but still came home with several strong performances and five second-place finishes.

Tierney Carter once again led the way for Oskaloosa. Carter earned three individual silver medals, finishing second in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, and 400-meter hurdles. She also anchored the sprint medley relay team of Monica Hundley, Vivian Bolibaugh, Delaney Harbour, and Carter to another second-place finish.

Delaney Harbour added another runner-up finish for the Indians in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 inches.

The Indians continued to improve across the lineup, finishing the night with 11 new personal records and one season-best relay performance.

The 4×800 relay team of Kennedy Wright, Kate McBurney, Ella Walter, and Hazel Adam cut 31 seconds off its previous season-best time.

Allie Campbell recorded a personal best in the discus, while Harbour earned a PR in the 200-meter dash. Kennedy Wright improved in the 400-meter hurdles, and Serigha Lappin set a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles.

Hazel Adam and Mia Luck both posted personal records in the 1500-meter run, with Luck dropping 17 seconds from her previous best time.

Additional personal records came from Wright and Adam during their legs of the 4×800 relay and from Vanessa Beadle, Ella Walter, and Adam in the 4×400 relay.

Coaches said this time of year is when personal records and quality performances should become more common, and the girls responded with one of their stronger meets of the season.

Oskaloosa will return to action Tuesday, May 5, at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet in Indianola.
