Oskaloosa boys tennis falls to Clarke, JV team earns strong win
OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa boys tennis team hosted Clarke on Tuesday night, turning in a strong effort but falling 6-3 in varsity action.
The Indians competed well across the lineup, with several close matches throughout the night. Liam Dykstra picked up Oskaloosa’s only singles win, earning an 8-5 victory at No. 6 singles.
Dykstra also found success in doubles play. He teamed up with Reuban Chilcote at No. 2 doubles, and the pair won a close match 9-7.
Oskaloosa added another doubles win at No. 3, where Kyle McHawes and Trace Rupprecht battled through a tight match and won 9-8. The match was decided in a tiebreaker, where they came out on top 8-6.
Despite the loss, the coaching staff said the team played some of its best tennis of the season.
The junior varsity team had a strong night, defeating Clarke 8-1.
Wyatt DeCook and Tate Riggs teamed up for multiple doubles wins, while Max Six and Tate Riggs also added wins in doubles play. In singles matches, DeCook earned two wins, Riggs added another victory, and Six finished with one win and one loss.
