OSKALOOSA BOYS TRACK COMPETES AT SAYDEL INVITE AGAINST STRONG FIELD
DES MOINES AREA — The Oskaloosa boys track and field team competed Thursday, April 16, at a large 15-team meet at Saydel, facing strong competition from across the state.
The meet gave the Indians a clear look at what it takes to compete against state-level teams. Injuries and illness kept some athletes out, but other team members stepped up to fill those roles.
Lane Smith led Oskaloosa with a fifth-place finish in the 3200-meter run, finishing in 11:01.35. Oscar Chambers added a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.73.
The 4×800 relay team of Sam Nelson, Silas Johnston, Carter Bonnett, and Kellen Kauzlarich placed eighth with a time of 9:48.87.
The team also recorded 10 new personal records during the meet, showing continued improvement. Athletes earning personal bests included Aidan Cox, Colton Hynick, Carter Jordan, Kellen Kauzlarich, Barrett Rinehart-Lynch, Jamison Ruby, Aiden Todey, and Micah Van Ea.
Coaches said they were pleased with how the team responded, especially with athletes stepping into new roles during a challenging meet.
Oskaloosa will now take the weekend to rest and recover before returning to action.
