Winter Storm hits Mahaska County today

***Major Winter Storm From Late This Morning Into Wednesday Morning***

A powerful and dangerous storm system will affect Iowa from late this morning into Wednesday. Moderate to heavy snow will move into southern and southwestern Iowa later this morning and spread across central and eastern Iowa this afternoon, persisting through tonight before ending Wednesday morning. Northerly winds will steadily increase today, creating significant blowing and drifting of snow once the heavier snowfall begins. Blizzard conditions are expected across about the southeastern third of the state where severe drifting and white out conditions are likely. Winter storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings are in effect, as the storm should be at its peak across central Iowa this afternoon and evening. Behind the storm bitterly cold air will surge into the state, and wind chills will reach dangerous levels especially across northern and northwestern Iowa later tonight.
