Oskaloosa JV Boys Take Runner-Up, Multiple Placers at Knoxville Tournament

The Oskaloosa JV boys wrestling team traveled to Knoxville on Monday night for a JV tournament and had several wrestlers place, led by a runner-up finish from Landon VanDonselaar.

VanDonselaar placed second at 285-A. He opened the tournament with a win by fall over Caleb Knapp of Knoxville at 6:00. In the semifinals, VanDonselaar pinned Lane Sexton of Ottumwa in 1:37 to reach the championship match. In the finals, he finished in second place after a loss by fall to Nolan Tum of North Mahaska in 3:50.

At 106, Wesley Nelson placed fourth. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, Nelson lost by fall to Kayden Speas of Ottumwa in 0:31. Nelson then wrestled for third place and was pinned by Kaleb Loman of Centerville in 0:27, finishing fourth.

Also at 106, Evan Allison placed fifth. Allison lost by fall to Kaleb Loman of Centerville in 0:24 in the quarterfinals. He received a bye in the consolation semifinal, then won his fifth-place match by fall over Bentley Haywood of Chariton in 1:07.

At 113-120, Braydin O’Brien placed fourth. He received a bye in the quarterfinals, then lost by decision to Bronx Freese of North Mahaska, 9-3, in the semifinals. In the third-place match, O’Brien lost by major decision to Cole TerLouw of Pella, 10-2, to finish fourth.

At 138, Lathyn Fox placed sixth. He lost by fall to Sam Leibach of Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas in 1:26 in the quarterfinals. Fox received a bye in the consolation semifinal, then lost the fifth-place match by technical fall to Finn Ward of Centerville, 16-0.

At 144-A, Misael Gonzales placed fourth. He received a bye in the quarterfinals, then lost by technical fall to Sylas Melendez of Ottumwa, 24-8, in the semifinals. Gonzales wrestled for third place and was pinned by Kayden Jimenez of Ottumwa in 0:51.

At 150-A, Isaiah Williams went 0-2. He lost by technical fall to Nolan Canny of Ottumwa, 17-1, then lost by technical fall to Noah Scott of Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas, 17-1, in the consolation round.

At 165-B, Elijah Voss placed fifth. He lost his quarterfinal match by fall to Hank Scott of ADM in 3:23. Voss then won by forfeit over Tristin McKim of Ottumwa to move into the fifth-place match. In that match, Voss won by fall over Austin Murray of ADM in 3:03 to earn fifth place.

At 190-215, Thomas Castaneda went 0-2 with two forfeits. He lost by forfeit to Nolan Schock of North Mahaska in the quarterfinals and then lost by forfeit to Joel Garcia of Ottumwa in the consolation round.

At 215-B, Faron Markwick went 0-2. He lost by fall to Slater Stevens of Ottumwa in 1:32, then lost by fall to Wyatt Heath of Knoxville in 0:43.

The Oskaloosa JV boys will be back in action tonight at Norwalk.
