The Oskaloosa girls wrestling team traveled to Saydel on Friday to compete in the Saydel Girls Invitational.

Oskaloosa had two wrestlers earn top-four finishes on the day. Mia Luck placed second at 140 pounds, and Alyssa Sheets placed fourth at 115 pounds. Whitney Steinlage (125) and Kadence Briggs (170) also competed for the Indians.

At 140, Luck had a strong run to the finals. She received a bye to start the tournament, then won her quarterfinal match by fall over Kinley Hare of Ogden in 1:09. In the semifinals, Luck won by fall over Montana Mitchell of Winterset in 1:48 to reach the championship match. In the finals, Luck finished second after a loss by major decision to Lily Weinreich of Clarinda, 13-1.

At 115, Sheets placed fourth. She opened with a bye, then won her quarterfinal match by fall over Gracee Wade of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in 2:44. In the semifinals, Sheets fell to Kylee Adams of Newton by technical fall, 15-0. Sheets then wrestled for third place and was pinned by Gianna Halsted of Southeast Polk at 3:38, finishing fourth.

At 125, Steinlage went 0-2 on the day. She was pinned by Khole Freeman of Johnston in 2:48, then was pinned by Charlee Neer of Ballard in 1:52 in the consolation round.

At 170, Briggs won two matches and battled through the consolation bracket. After a first-round loss by fall to Grace Guy of Newton, Briggs responded with a pin over Brooklynn Audas of Colfax-Mingo in 1:50. Briggs then advanced with a medical forfeit over Payton Bradley of Newton before dropping her consolation semifinal match by fall to Makayla Alexander of Ogden at 3:48.

Oskaloosa will continue its season with more tournament and dual action as the Indians work to build experience and improve heading into the next part of the schedule.
