Oskaloosa Boys Golf Team Shows Mettle, Narrowly Misses District Qualification
The Oskaloosa High School boys’ golf team showcased their best performance of the year at the sectional meet held at Edmundson Golf Course, but despite their strong showing, they fell just short of advancing to district play.
Coach Brett Doud expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “The boys battled throughout the day, shooting their best team score on the year at Edmundson of 315.” Unfortunately, that score was five strokes shy of what was needed to move on to the next stage of competition.
The standout player for the Indians was Johnathan Terpstra, who led the team with a score of 71, securing a third-place finish in a highly competitive field. “John’s mark of 71 was enough for a 3rd place individual finish and only one shot off the two-way tie for medalist at 70,” Coach Doud remarked. This performance earned Terpstra an individual invitation to compete in the district meet in Williamsburg.
Ryan Carriker also had a notable performance, contributing solidly with a score of 77. “Carriker’s mark of 77 placed him 7th overall out of the 48 player field,” highlighted Doud. Additional scores from Carter Blanco and Linus Morrison, who shot 81 and 86, respectively, rounded out the team’s effort.
Coach Doud reflected on the season with a mix of sadness and pride: “While it is sad to see the team’s season come to an end, there will always be a number of great memories to hold onto.”
As the team’s season concludes, the focus shifts to Terpstra’s individual pursuit at the district meet. He will aim to continue his impressive run and secure a spot at the state tournament for the fourth year in a row.
