Ottumwa, Iowa | Age 75
Served With Honor ~ United States Military Veteran

Daniel “Danny” Harry Ott, known to many as “Boone,” took his last curtain call on November 4, 2023. Daniel was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on December 22, 1947, to parents William and Martha (Cary) Ott.

Danny was nothing short of a living legend. A loving father, resilient brother and witty friend. Danny spent his life dividing his time between keeping Ottumwa safe and heckling everyone within earshot. He was the kind of man who, if he didn’t have a clever retort at the ready, had probably just thought of one.

Danny was a man of many hats; he could hunt, make anyone laugh, and was particularly proud of his family and his ’66 Corvair. He enjoyed spending time tinkering on CB Radios, listening to the local scanner to make sure his loved ones were staying safe and mowing his yard daily to agitate his neighbors.

Danny served his community as a Dispatcher at Wapello County Sheriffs Department and a Security Guard at John Deere Ottumwa Works before retiring in 2009. His resilience and dedication were echoed in his personal life, where his greatest pride was his family and his military service in the Vietnam War.

Danny is survived by his son Shawn (Teresa) Ott, daughter Amy (Aaron) Barnett, grandchildren– Brandy Collins, Codie James, Chelsie (Gunther) Hartman, Clayton Davis, Matthew Ott, Daniel Ott, and Andrew (Tyler) Moore and his five great-grandchildren who will miss their grandpa’s wit and warmth. His sister Cathy Ott, Diane (Doug) Kiene, brothers in-law Andy Covert and Danny Rudd, bonus daughter Yadira “Yaya” Caraballo Bracero, and special friend Deb Smitheart also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Ott, siblings twin brother Donny (Linda) Ott, Sue Covert, Patricia Rudd, Janice (Chet) Cornett, and Father Richard Ott.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” As we remember Danny, let’s strive to live according to this principle. We invite you to share your memories and upload your favorite photos of Danny “Boone” to the memorial page. Let us not forget his loving spirit, resilience in the face of obstacles, witty charm, and courageous heart.“

At Danny’s request his body has been cremated.
Memorial service will be 10 AM Friday November 10th at Cedar Community Church in Cedar Iowa, burial following at Shaul Cemetery with Military Honors in Ottumwa Iowa. Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Cedar Community Church.
