Lyle Boyd
June 25, 1924 – January 20, 2011
Lyle Boyd, 86 of New Sharon passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Saturday, January 22, 2011 with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Coffin-Miller American Legion Post #446.
Lyle Burton Boyd, son of Lloyd and Fern (Taylor) Boyd was born on June 25, 1924 in rural Taintor, Iowa. He was a 1940 graduate of New Sharon High School. Lyle was drafted in United States Army in 1942 serving in the Battle of Bulge in Germany, where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Medal and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On March 2, 1951, Lyle was united in marriage to JoAnn Walter in Taintor, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Dennis, Randy, Bob, Dixie and Bob. Lyle farmed in the Taintor area until the mid sixties when he began selling grain equipment. Lyle got into the satellite T.V. business in 1980 and then the cell phone business in 1996. He enjoyed golfing, motorcycles, gadgets and traveling. He was a race fan and an avid Hawkeye fan. Lyle was a member of the Methodist Church, Coffin-Miller American Legion American Legion Post #446 and Prairie Knolls Country Club.
His memory will be honored by his wife of 59 years, JoAnn Boyd of New Sharon; four children, Dennis (Kathy) Boyd of North Liberty, Randy (Denise) Boyd of Otley, Dixie Boyd (Al Cerwinske) of Oskaloosa and Bob (Julie) Boyd of Pella; one brother, Don (Sherril) Boyd of New Sharon; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and an infant sister.
