Lee Woerdeman, 90, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, May 15, 2023, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born July 7, 1932, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Monte and Rosetta Padgett Vance.
Lee attended Beacon School through 10th grade and went on to attend Oskaloosa High School.
Lee was united in marriage to (Delbert) Duane “Runt” Johnson, to this union five children were born, Michele, Monte, Steve, Bruce, and Shelley. Lee and Duane later divorced.
Lee was later united in marriage to Donovan Woerdeman on January 26, 1973, in Illinios. The two of them enjoyed 35 years of marriage until Don’s passing on May 24, 2008. Following the loss of Don, Lee stayed in her home until early 2023, when her health declined.
Lee was a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary. She was very interested in family history and spent hours compiling her family genealogy.
She is survived by four children: Michele Johnson of Beacon, Monte (& Karen) Johnson of Oskaloosa, Steve (& Michele) Johnson of Beacon, and Shelley Eskew (& Gary Bowlin) of Phoenix, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; a sister, Peg Vance of Harvey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan; a son, Bruce Johnson; her parents; and a sister, Evelyn Jensen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Robert Goodrich officiating.
Burial will be in the Coal Creek Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Thursday evening from 6-8 to greet friends and relatives.
