Lily May Edwards, age 93, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born on April 2, 1930, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Grover and Ethel (Sparks) Musgrove.
Lily attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1948.
On November 28, 1948, Lily was united in marriage to David Earl Edwards in Rose Hill, Iowa. David passed away in 1985.
Lily worked at Wolvers five and dime in Oskaloosa. After her marriage, she was a homemaker, taking care of her home and raising her family.
Lily was an attending member of the Evans Union Church when it was still holding services. She enjoyed doing embroidery and tending to her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and word find puzzles.
Her family includes her children: Rick (& Fiancée Susan Buffington) Edwards of Evans, Iowa, Steve Edwards of Evans, Iowa and Laura (& Tony) DeJong of Oskaloosa; a close son-in-law, Keith Moore; 13 grandchildren: Val Hetherington, Keith B. Moore, John Moore, Greg McCombs, Ashley McCombs, Krissy McCombs, Jake Greenhalgh, Ki-Jana DeJong, Alex DeJong, Tucker DeJong, Bill Almond, Christopher Edwards and Tabitha Edwards. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Lily is preceded in death by two children, Alice Moore and David Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating.
Burial will take place at Butler Cemetery just west of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Lily’s family present at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. to greet relatives and guests.
Memorials may be directed to the MHP Serenity Hospice House.
