Obituary:
R. Darlene Vernon was born August 21, 1933 in Dunreath, Iowa the daughter of George G. Sellers and Fay (Templeton) Sellers.
As a girl, Darlene was raised in Monroe, Reasnor and Nepas. She graduated from Knoxville High School. Following high school, Darlene worked for Bellamy Telephone. On May 31, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gail Ogden Vernon. The couple lived in Knoxville the rest of their lives. Darlene later went to work for Pamida, retiring in 2000 after 26 years of service. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States and taking cruises.
Darlene passed away on Tuesday, January 18th at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 28 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers: Marvin and Carrol “Whitey”.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons: Douglas (Dorothy) of Knoxville and Dan of Des Moines; two grandchildren: Zack (Amy) and Seth (Casie); great-grandson, Oakley; two sisters: Norma Kimzey of Piedra, California and Bonnie McDonald of Des Moines and her companion, Dwayne Mortenson of Pershing and many other family members and friends.
