Obituary:
Loy Bell (Goodsell) Stines was born on June 27, 1934 in El Paso, Arkansas, the daughter of Oliver Modlin and Mary (Ramsey) Modlin.
She grew up in Arkansas and later moved to Kellogg, Iowa. Loy later moved to Newton in the 1950’s where the rest of her family followed. In 1965 Loy went to work in Knoxville at the Veteran’s Hospital where she started out in laundry and worked as a nurse’s aide and later in the housekeeping department where she retired in the early 90’s.

Loy was a fantastic cook and will be remembered for her bread, fried chicken, cornbread dressing, sweet tea and the fact that she never used a recipe. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it be attending one of their events or just playing outside and laughing a lot. Loy was a hard worker with a kind heart who had a great sense of humor.
She passed away on Monday at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 21 days.
Survivors include her children; Glenn Goodsell of Sheffield, Mary Foster (Marty Hauenstein) of Knoxville, David Goodsell of Newburg, Carolyn Powers of Townsend, MT, Billy Goodsell of Knoxville, Terry (Joanie) Goodsell of Indianola; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lois Dale (Shirley) Modlin of Newton, Faye (Seth) Clark of Prairie City, Elmer (Judy) Modlin of Newton, Robert (Marla) Modlin of Kellogg, and James (Linda) Modlin of Pella.
