One Firefighter Receives Slight Injury In Battling Structure Fire

A New Sharon Fire and Rescue Press Release

On Friday, March 19, 2021, at approximately 8:16 pm, New Sharon Fire and Rescue was notified of a structure fire in the 1400 block of Merino Ave. New Sharon Fire responded and arrived on scene within 10 minutes from the time of notification to find a single-story residence with roughly fifty percent fire involved. New Sharon Fire was advised all occupants were safe and had exited the residence. The fire was extinguished: however, the structure is a total loss.

New Sharon Fire and Rescue responded with a total of 17 firefighters and EMS staff. A total of 31 firefighters responded. One firefighter received minor injuries, he was treated and released by New Sharon Ambulance. Crews were on scene for approximately 3.5 hours. New Sharon Fire and Rescue was assisted by the Oskaloosa Fire Department, Barnes City Fire Department, New Sharon Police Department, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Mahaska County Emergency Management, and Mahaska County E911 Center.
