Workshop Scheduled At IHCC
OTTUMWA — An informative workshop that will help students obtain the knowledge and skills they need to start them on the way to being successful college students is scheduled for July 29-Aug. 1 at Indian Hills Community College. The four-day College Connections Workshop will include daytime classroom sessions and nighttime activities, according to Jessica Chickering, Director of Student Support Services at Indian Hills.
Chickering emphasizes that the weeklong workshop is free and not limited to a certain age group, although she says participants are typically students who have recently graduated from high school.
There will be sessions during the day on topics like note-taking, study skills, classroom etiquette and test-taking strategies. It will give participants the chance to meet staff and learn to find their way around the Ottumwa campus.
Evening activities will include movies, bowling and socializing with other future Indian Hills students. Staying in an on-campus residence hall for the week is optional, but encouraged.
“This is a really valuable way for students to get a head-start on going to college and should relieve the anxiety some people might have this summer,” Chickering concluded.
