William Penn Jumps Back to #23
Oskaloosa–Following a slim win over a ranked league foe, the William Penn women’s golf team is back in the top 25 as the NAIA released its third national poll Friday.
The Statesmen matched their best ranking ever at #23 with a new program high of 126 points. The navy and gold flip-flopped with Grand View, whom it defeated by one stroke last week at the Ashford Invitational. The Vikings are now #27 in the nation.
William Penn has had a hot start to its frigid spring, winning one event and placing second in two others.
SCAD Savannah (Ga.) remains #1 for the third week in row. It owns 456 points and 10 of the 17 first-place votes. Oklahoma City is second with four first-place votes, while Cal-State San Marcos, William Woods (Mo.), and Lubbock Christian (Texas) round out the top five. William Woods and Lubbock Christian are tied for fourth, while #3 through #5 all own one first-place vote.
William Penn is currently in action at the AIB Invitational in Panora. It is the final warm-up before the program competes in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday. The event, which serves as the automatic qualifier for the NAIA National Championships, will be contested at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.
