Career Award #14 for Green
Oskaloosa–Gabriel Green (Sr., Anniston, Ala., Business Management) only has a few more weeks left of his collegiate career and he is making the most of it as he was honored once again as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week Monday.
Green has picked up the laurel four times this year (including indoor and outdoor) and 14 times in his career. This time around it was due to his top finishes at the Northwest Missouri State Open last Saturday.
The senior won the 200-meter dash in 22.29 seconds and was third in the 100-meter dash in 10.95 seconds. He is currently ranked first in the MCC in the 200 and second in the 100.
William Penn has earned seven awards on the men’s side this year.
Whitehead Mows Down Batters for Second POW Accolade
Oskaloosa–Jennifer Whitehead (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) is pitching her best ball of the season and it has not gone unnoticed as she was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week Monday.
Whitehead earned her second POW honor of the year (ninth career) after guiding William Penn (23-9, 7-1 MCC) to a 4-2 record last week.
The junior was pushed to the limit, tossing 35 2/3 innings in six appearances. She finished 3-2 (one save) with a 0.79 Earned Run Average.
Whitehead only permitted more than one earned run once and posted two shutouts. She struck out an average of 5.5 batters per contest, including nine against Mount Mercy last Thursday.
For the year, Whitehead is 10-5 with a 1.17 ERA in 107 1/3 frames of work. She has posted 116 strikeouts with 27 walks and opponents are hitting only .176 against her. The junior, who has three shutouts and one save, has thrown 14 complete games.
The award is the fourth for WPU this year.
Yang Selected as GOW for Second Time This Year
Oskaloosa–Maggie Yang (So., Chino, Calif., Biology) placed herself among the tournament leaders once again last week and her efforts earned her Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week honors Monday.
Yang, now a two-time honoree this year (four career), tied for second out of 51 competitors to help the Statesmen women’s golf team to a runner-up finish at the Ashford Invitational last weekend. The squad’s first-day score of 322 is a school record against par (+30).
The sophomore posted a 79-80–159 on the par-73 Blue Top Ridge Golf Course for her eighth top-five finish of the season. She currently owns an 81.0 stroke average.
The award is the fourth for WPU this year.
